UGA-Centric NFT DGD Mafia Collection Dropped On Dapper Labs Flow With Real Value Benefits

Aaron Murray, Keith Marshall and brothers Ty and Trent Frix, the four former Georgia football players who released a UGA-centric NFT collection the day before the CFP championship game, dropped a collection on Sunday. Four-hundred and fifty tokens featuring custom Bulldog artwork and fan memberships sold out in less than four hours. An additional 500 tokens were retained for promotional purposes. The Players’ Lounge created this creation, dubbed DGD Mafia — Digitally Generated Dogs — in order to connect college athletes and fans and, crucially, to support them financially through the new NIL rules.

The NFTs sold for $199 apiece, and 50% of the revenue is earmarked for the current players. Butkus Award-winning LB Nakobe Dean, QB Stetson Bennett IV, TE Brock Bowers and RB Zamir White are among the 11 players who signed on. Hosted by Dapper Labs and launched with help from blockchain company GigLabs, The Players’ Lounge started with UGA football for obvious reasons, but plans to expand to other sports and other schools. The artwork collectible is a perk of the NFT but secondary to what they see as the real value: access to events, podcasts, panels, tailgates, autograph signings, exclusive message boards, Discord channels and more.
